Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to be an integral part of our structural team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing bridge, culvert, and retaining wall structures, performing field investigations, and assisting in the preparation of structural plans, specifications, cost estimates, supporting documents, and permit applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design bridge, culvert, and retaining wall structures using your expertise in structural engineering principles.
  • Conduct field investigations to inform your designs.
  • Prepare structural plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications.
  • Manage overall project coordination, ensuring all aspects flow smoothly.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, vendors, and clients.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including calculations and project files.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis and a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 6-10 years of experience in the transportation market.
  • Expertise in bridge and roadway structures, including knowledge of relevant codes and standards (AASHTO, IDOT, ISTHA, AREMA).
  • Strong understanding of key structural elements like bridges (superstructure & substructure), retaining walls, beams, columns/piers, and foundation systems.
  • Experience with bridge inspection (completed NHI training a plus).
  • Excellent research, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in engineering and business applications like Microsoft Office, Microstation/AutoCAD (essential).
  • Experience with GeoPak/Open Bridge Modeler/Civil 3D a plus.
  • Knowledge of structural calculation software (Midas, DCalc, ConSpan, STADD, LEAP, MDX, LPile, etc.) a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
